No Doors. No Windows. is a suspenseful horror novel written by Joe Schreiber who is the author of Chasing the Dead and Eat the Dark. Schreiber has a knack for writing scary stories that move quickly and deliver on creepiness.

Set in New England, No Doors. No Windows. is about a struggling writer, Scott Mast, who travels cross country to attend his father’s funeral. While mulling around home Scott discovers a manuscript that was written by his father and contains a compelling unfinished story. Scott’s old high school flame Sonia Graham convinces him to stay and finish the story while caring for his irresponsible brother Owen and his son Henry. As Scott begins working on the story about the black wing of Round House he discovers that there is an actual Round House on the outskirts of town. Scott moves in to Round House and begins to uncover a disturbing tale that includes some of his ancestors and some of the townsfolk. Scott battles his inner demons as he struggles against ghosts, old acquaintances, and his mental infirmities to try to make sense of it all.

Schreiber does an excellent job in pacing the story in to action. Because of the pacing you get to know the characters, but are not bogged down in unnecessary detail. He weaves intricate storylines in to the framework to keep you guessing as to how the story will end. It’s a unique ghost story that will send shivers down your spine and keep you saying, “Just one more chapter,” until you are finished with the book

There are some course language, sexual innuendo, and a graphic sex scene. Mr. Schreiber doesn’t hold back on the horror descriptions or gory details so in the world of the MPAA this book would be rated R. No Doors. No Windows. is 274 pages and published by Del Rey books.
