Kristen Stewart takes on Joan Jett
According to IMDB.com, The Runaways, a coming-of-age biopic about the 1970s teenage band is slated for release sometime in 2010. Written and directed by Floria Sigismondi and executive produced by Joan Jett , the flick is currently in production in Los Angeles under the label of River Road Entertainment. Kristen Stewart, best known for her work in Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon will portray Jett in the film. New Moon co-star Dakota Fanning will play Cherie Currie. Alessandra Torresani and Stella Maeve will play Lita Ford and Sandy West, respectively.
IMDB further reports the film is based on lead singer Cherie Currie’s book, “Neon Angel.” The movie will focus on the formation of the band and their rise to fame. Garnering some attention in the United States for their first single, “Cherry Bomb,” the five-girl lineup did not reach fame of epic proportions until they reached Japan. It is there that Curie’s personal life takes a turn for the worse and she ultimately makes the decision to leave the group upon their return to the States. Following Curie’s departure, Ford and West partner with Jett, who decides “rock & roll is her life,” calling [the band] her “’family’” and together the group forges ahead to make it big.
