Cleveland area landmarks are no stranger to film. In fact, over the last 25 years, at least 10 films have been filmed in Northeast Ohio or on location throughout Cleveland according to About.com.
In 1987's Light of Day starring Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett, scenes were filmed in Cleveland Heights and University Circle neighborhoods. Akron native and Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor also makes an appearance, pre-rock stardom.
Cleveland sports also got their share of the Hollywood spotlight, with the Cleveland Indians featured as a fictional team in 1989's Major League. Starring Charlie Sheen and Tom Berenger, scenes from the movie were shot at Cleveland Municipal Stadium.
Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland City Hall both played host to Harrison Ford and Air Force One in 1997. Ten years later, portions of Spider-man 3 were filmed along Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland.
Most recently, Robert Downey Jr and Jamie Foxx star in The Soloist (2009), in which Downey's character Nathaniel Ayers is from the Hough neighborhood and learns to play string bass at the Cleveland Music School Settlement. Portions of the film were filmed in the Hough neighborhood, the Detroit-Carnegie Bridge, and the Flats.
But perhaps the most well-known is 1983's A Christmas Story, starring Darren McGavin and Peter Billingsley. The movie was shot at the former Higbee's Department Store on Public Square, on West 11th Street and in the Tremont neighborhood. Ralphie's house from the film was turned into a museum of sorts, complete with the infamous leg lamp, and opened to the public in 2006. For more on A Christmas Story House, click here.
