A million Maclaren umbrella strollers are being voluntarily recalled after reports childrens' fingers were amputated. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports they know of at least 12 cases in the United States where childrens' fingertips were amputated by the stroller's hinges. The stroller's hinge mechanism poses a hazard when the stroller is being opened or closed.
Strollers being recalled are Maclaren single and double umbrella strollers. The affected models included Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller. The strollers were sold at Babies“R”Us, Target and other retailers nationwide from 1999 through this month. The strollers retailed for between $100 and $360.
Parents should stop using the stroller until they get a free repair kit from Maclaren. To get the repair kit contact the company by phone at (877) 688-2326 or online at www.maclaren.us/recall
