These days everyone seems to be after organic and all natural products. But when it comes to cotton balls, the choice should be based on usage.

Cotton balls come in two forms, real or synthetic. Real cotton balls are more absorbent than their imposters. This is good when you want to soak up a product such as nail polish remover. They are also good for applying loose powder as they generally stay intact better than synthetic fibers instead of depositing on the skin.

When removing nail polish it’s best to use real cotton balls. The fibers of synthetic puffs shed onto the nails and can appear later under a new coat of color.

Synthetic cotton balls do not absorb liquid as quickly. Liquid cosmetics can be expensive and you don’t want to waste much of your product by letting it soak into a cotton ball. Cosmetics such as makeup removers and facial toners should be applied with synthetic cotton. The fibers will hold the product on the surface instead of sucking into the center, ultimately using less of the product.
