3 layers keeps her warm and toasty for light
fall days.

As winter is upon us, now is the time to prepare the closet of your elderly friend so they remain warm and toasty through the winter days. Selecting clothing for elderly comfort is easy if you just follow a few tips.

1. Think layers - many layers of clothes trap warm air and will keep your senior citizen warmer. Starting with a silk under layerr ensures maximum warmth. Add a v-neck vest or sweater and top with a fluffy warm cardigan. You'll really have a friend if you select clothing with pockets in front for those ever present tissues.

2. Prepare feet with layers too - using 2 smaller pairs of socks will keep feet warmer than one larger pair. Make sure socks are large enough so circulation is not impaired. If diabetes is an issue,  make sure to layer on non-restrictive socks. And, do not buy socks with grippy bottoms - these will throw those among us who shuffle their feet!

3. Mittens or gloves are a given for colder temperatures. And, don't expect an elderly person to be comfortable at 75 degrees without extra protection. Circulation slows up as we age and we chill faster.

4. Hats or scarves are not only in style now but they'll protect the head, where most  heat is lost. Add a rakish beret or top hat for your gentlemen friends or a beautiful woven warm scarf for the women.
