HOUSTON, TEXAS – NBA superstar Yao Ming joined Twitter this week, promising some competition for other celebrities who use the service such as Oprah Winfrey and Shaquille O’Neal.
Yao posted his first Tweet on Oct. 27. “I like David Andersen, our new center. We played each other in international games. I think he will fit Coach Adelman's style very well,” he wrote.
As of Oct. 30, Yao’s Twitter page had already attracted nearly 900 followers. Unfortunately, Yao’s fans in mainland China will not be able to follow his Tweets. The site has been blocked in the country since July. The official NBA website has said that it receives most of its hits from China, where basketball, or “lan qiu,” is incredibly popular.
Yao also revealed via a Tweet that he will spend Halloween at Toyota Center to cheer on the Houston Rockets as they play against the Portland Trail Blazers.
