October is Celiac Disease Awareness Month.

Celiac Disease can be especially challenging for parents of young children because they tend to be selective eaters, and Celiac requires extra creativity and detective work to determine problem-free foods. In other words, food that is gluten-free. Celiac Disease also tends to co-occur somewhat frequently in children with diabetes, making their food challenges even greater.

It helps to know which restaurants in our area offer gluten-free menu options, and happily, those numbers are rising as we become more aware and better at earlier diagnosis of Celiac.

Here are a few that I've found so far in and around the Mclean/Tyson's area. While they all offer gluten-free dishes, and some have extensive gluten-free menus, their kitchens are not necessarily gluten-free.

What restaurants have you found?  It would be tremendously helpful if you'd share your discoveries with us as well. Please send them along by posting a comment at the bottom of this article.

  1. The Original Pancake House
  2.  Lebanese Taverna
  3. Wildfire
  4. Boston Market
  5. Fleming's Steakhouse
  6. Legal Seafood
  7. Outback Steakhouse
