My son and I are Segway nuts! We've taken Segway tours many times, both the on and off-road varieties, and we had one of our most fantastic tours this summer at Harbor Segs, located in the heart of the sparkling newNational Harbor in Maryland.
Our tour took proceeded across the Wilson Bridge, along the bike route and not in the midst of traffic, to my enormous relief! We cruised into Old Town Alexandria, for a marvelous tour. The ride was easy and comfortable. Our guide, a PG County Lieutenant with the Fire Dept., who co-owns the biz with a PG County Battalion Chief, provided a highly entertaining and thoroughly detailed historical tour. The breeze from the smooth ride of the Segways kept us cool, and I saw, and learned, more about Old Town, than I've seen in the 12 years I've lived in the area. What a treat not to have to hunt for a parking space!
We took occasional stops to discuss the sights and to stretch our legs, and were able to hear our guide through headphones that we wore under our helmets.
This is a terrific thing to do with your family (there are age requirements though), and a fantastic way for out of town guests to see a lot of the area without exhausting themselves.
For an after-Segway lunch, there are a tremendous number of restaurants, but I've gotta say I love Elevation Burger, located right next door and across from the water. Delicious!! This outing also provided a chance for us to visit the new Inner Harbor, which has a lot to offer but seems lacking for visitors right now. The plus is that things are relatively uncrowded, and parking is easy to come by, convenient, and easy. Jet ski rentals are available in the warmer months, and a water taxi is available to ferry you back and forth to Old Town if you want to avoid the traffic and parking issues in Alexandria.
