Poe House, Baltimore

Edgar Allen Poe fans, take heart. You may have missed the open casket viewing of Poe’s body and the Oct 11 procession in which Poe’s casket was transported in an antique horse drawn hearse to Baltimore’s Westminster Hall. But if you'll be in Baltimore tonight, you can attend the Poe Museum’s Unhappy Hour from 6-9 pm, which features a Poe look-alike contest.

"Come dressed to depress," they instruct revelers. "There will be live music, a Victorian séance, and a cash bar. Don’t forget to bring your mustaches and wigs for the Poe Look-Alike Contest.

According to the Museum, “Poe was a quiet, shy-looking but handsome man; he was slightly built, and was five feet, eight inches in height. His mouth was considered beautiful. His eyes, with long dark lashes, were hazel-gray."

Poe, the author of "The Raven" and other eerie classics, was born January 19, 1809, in Boston. He died at the age of 40 on October 7, 1849, and was buried in the yard of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Maryland. This year marks the 200th anniversary of his birth and the 160th anniversary of his death.

The Baltimore Poe House and Museum is located at 203 Amity Street in West Baltimore
