Marie Callender's is well-known for its pies, but drive past the Napa restaurant on Highway 29 North, at Trower, and you will see a large, rather garish "Now Serving Breakfast" painted on the window.
If you are the sort of person who believes that every meal should come with dessert, you will not be disappointed. For those menu items that typically include toast, you can choose from a variety of fresh-baked muffins at no extra cost. Zesty Lemon is pictured above, and other flavors include Triple Chocolate, Mandarin Orange Cream Cheese, and Blueberry Streusel, each of them easily six inches in diameter at the widest point.
The egg choices range from the simple Two Eggs, Any Style, to Eggs Benedict, to the "Oh, My" Omelette, filled with both bacon and sausage, vegetables, and three cheeses. Griddle items include pancakes, french toast, and waffles with an assortment of available toppings. If your breakfast of choice is oatmeal and fruit, and you somehow missed the Whole Foods Market right down the street, then you can order it here.
It seems like a restaurant that specializes in pies would have outstanding coffee. It isn't awful, but if a delicious cup of coffee is your favorite part of your breakfast routine, then you'll probably want to have it after you leave. Somewhere else.
Marie Callender's serves breakfast from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday through Saturday, and serves brunch on Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It is located at 1990 Trower Avenue, in Napa, California.
