The much anticipated return of "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" is now official.
Fighter's Only has been able to confirm through sources close to Mark Coleman that the rumored match-up of Tito Ortiz vs. Mark Coleman is now set.
Ortiz and Coleman will lock horns at UFC 106 in Las Vegas on November 21st. The bout was discussed last month as Dana White conducted a press conference in which one of the topics discussed was the re-signing of Ortiz.
Ortiz once held the UFC light heavyweight championship while Mark Coleman was the UFC's first ever heavyweight champion back in 1997. Ortiz held the title for over three years and defended it five times.
Coleman, who was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2008 is 1-1 since returning to action. He lost to current light heavyweight #1 contender, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua via 3rd round TKO at UFC 93. He collected his first victory inside the octagon in over twelve years when he defeated Stephan Bonnar in July at UFC 100.
Ortiz was last seen losing a unanimous decision to current light heavyweight champion Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida at UFC 84 in April of last year. Ortiz underwent extensive back surgery earlier this year and said he feels better than he ever has and is looking forward to reclaiming "his" light heavyweight championship.
Both men are outstanding wrestlers, but Ortiz is ten years younger and is known for having excellent stamina, something that could give him the edge over Coleman. As of now only one other match has been discussed for UFC 106. Ricardo Almeida, coming off an impressive victory at UFC 101 over Kendall Grove will make his debut as a welterweight as he takes on Jon Fitch. Fitch was victorious at UFC 100 against Paulo Thiago and is looking for another shot at welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre.
