The great thing about Halloween in New York City is that it often involves so much more than simply answering the door for neighborhood trick-or-treaters. There are dozens of options to choose from, but here are three great (and varied) events.
The Haunted House
If you're looking for a less costumey way to celebrate, catch a showing of The Haunted House, a humorous murder mystery written by Owen Davis and directed by Tom Holmes. Two newlyweds arrive at a family cottage for their honeymoon, joined by a stalker ex-girlfriend who is later found dead. A New York detective, the local sheriff, and a mystery writer neighbor all help solve the case.
The cast includes Bernie Cacchione, Douglas B. Giorgis, Judy Jerome, Patrick Oliver Jones, Sean MacBride Murray, Trip Plymale, Warren Schultz, Jackie Sokol, Dawn Timm, and TD White.
The show runs straight through from October 25, 2009 to November 3, 2009 (except October 28) at the Producers' Club: Crowne Theater on 358 W 44th Street.
Tickets are $18 and are now available online. Tickets may also be purchased in-person at the theater box office half-hour prior to performance.
Tarot-A-Palooza
On Friday, October 30, venture to Ditmas Park for Tarot-A-Palooza 2009. The Kris Waldherr Art and Words Gallery is hosting a tarot reading marathon from 6pm to 10pm. Entry to the event is free and includes refreshments and door prizes, but the price of tarot readings varies depending on the card reader. (Urban shaman Mama Donna Henes and acclaimed tarotist Renee Collins are just two of the special guests offering readings.)
Kris Waldherr, owner of the Art and Words Gallery, is the creator of the Goddess Tarot and the Lover's Path Tarot decks, as well as the author and illustrator of books such as Doomed Queens and the Book of Goddesses.
The Kris Waldherr Art and Words Gallery is located at 1501 Newkirk Avenue in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn.
