Here is the latest epic trailer for upcoming RPG behemoth Final Fantasy XIII, fresh from the Tokyo Game Show:

It looks like good old Final Fantasy alright.  Spikey-haired protagonists, lots of Japanese melodrama, and gorgeous graphics. 

Final Fantasy XIII promises to be somewhat of a return to old-school Final Fantasy gameplay, with a turn-based combat system that is more of an action-oriented take on pre-Final Fantasy XII systems.  XII's MMO-inspired combat was rejected by many Final Fantasy fans who preferred a more traditional approach.

Final Fantasy XIII will be released in Japan on December 17, with no North American release date yet announced.  Square Enix claims an early 2010 window is targeted, but Final Fantasy titles tend to take a painfully long time to make it to Western shores.  Final Fantasy XIII is being developed for both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
