Netflix and Sony have confirmed what has been rumored for months, that the Playstation 3 will soon be able to stream movies and TV shows via the popular movie rental service starting next month.
Those PS3 owners with a Netflix subscription will at first be required to use a free Blu-ray disc to utilize the service. The disc will be made available to all Netflix members and can be reserved now at www.netflix.com/ps3.
As with the Netflix service on Xbox Live, Netflix on PS3 will allow users to browse and edit their instant queues and then stream content directly on their TVs. Anyone who makes regular use of Netflix's instant streaming service knows how nice it is to have the option of watching movies instantly on their TV rather than a computer screen.
With new low price points and yet another multimedia feature that neither can claim as exclusive, the contest between the PS3 and Xbox 360 seems more reliant on game content than it has in some time.
