The Proposal is a romantic comedy that offers something for everyone. Although, the movie is fairly predictable, most romances are, it's still worth seeing.

Sandra Bullock plays Margaret Tate, a top book editor that needs to find a way to prevent her deportation back to Canada. Ryan Reynolds plays her assistant, Andrew Paxton, who suddenly becomes Margaret's solution to the problem. Before he realizes what's happening, he's unexpectedly engaged to his monster-of-a-boss, Margaret. They go to visit Andrew's family in Sitka, Alaska for his grandmother's 90th birthday, but also to announce their engagement.

Andrew's mother, Grace Paxton, is played by Mary Steenburgen, who is commonly placed in these motherly roles. She's loving, comforting, and funny. His Grandma Annie, played by Betty White, is hilarious. She comes up with some of the best quips and is in some of the funniest scenes in the movie. Craig T. Nelson plays Andrew's father, Joe Paxton. Nelson's role is confusing at times; he plays a bad guy, then the good guy, then the bad guy, and then the good guy again. The characters weren't developed enough, especially when trying to understand how the family came into so much money just from owning all the stores in their small town.

The relationship between Margaret and Andrew does soften. Their interaction with each other is sweet and funny. They begin to look at one and other as real people, instead of boss and assistant. Understanding Margaret even more than he already did, causes Andrew to become more attracted to her. When Margaret gets to know Andrew, his family and friends, she realizes that he truly has it all and that she is ruining his life by forcing the marriage on him. Margaret sees that there are other options for both of them and that she's being selfish.

The Proposal is doing great at the box office and those that have seen it are highly recommending it. It's rated PG-13 and for good reason. There are funny scenes throughout, which keep it moving along at a good pace. One nice perk for men and women is getting to check out the hot bodies of Bullock and Reynolds. It's great to see with a date or for a girl's night out. Most people will enjoy this film, if rom-com's are not something that is of interest, then don't go to see this movie.
