The independent film How to Be, which stars Robert Pattinson, is a must see film. To clear things up, How to Be was filmed prior to Twilight, but released after and it was not in theaters.
Many that have seen it highly recommend it, but not everyone is going to like this movie. The dry, British humor is taken well by most. The way that Pattinson plays the main character, Art, has to be seen as nothing short of amazing. Going from How to Be to Twilight is like night and day. It's hard to believe that it's the same actor.
Playing this role could not have been easy. Art has some issues, which are mainly due to his parents (Rebecca Pidgeon and Michael Irving), not to mention his lack of confidence. He decides to hire Dr. Levi Ellington (Powell Jones), who wrote a self-help book, to teach him how to be normal.
There is a scene where Art just wants a hug from his mother. Her reaction to his sudden closeness is both sad and funny. It makes a person want to give him a hug, take him out, and give him some much needed attention.
His friends, Ronny (Johnny White) and Nikki (Mike Pearce), are just as messed up as he is, which adds to more strange, but funny situations.
Pattinson's musical talent is present, but not quite as Art. Instead, he gets his chance to shine on the How to Be soundtrack.
Since this movie is an independent film, there are certain parts where it's fairly obvious that the budget wasn't high, but that doesn't take away from enjoying the film and the work done.
If Pattinson wants to show that he is capable of playing more roles than "Edward Cullen"...this helped. Those that watch How to Be will see a different side to him. No matter what role he is in, Pattinson takes on the persona. The way that he slips into his characters so easily shows that there is truly something to be said about him as an actor and a person.
