The 22nd Annual Virginia Film Festival began November 5th and goes until November 8th. The festival theme is Funny Business and will be full of events, screenings, and parties.
The festival is presented by the University of Virginia's College of Graduate School of Arts & Science. It also includes some special guests; among them are Matthew Broderick, and Alan Ball.
An interactive schedule is available, which makes planning events and film screenings that you may want to attend much easier. You may also purchase tickets online, by phone (end 11/6), and in person (ends 11/6.)
Youth in Revolt has been added to the program. The film stars Michael Cera, Justin Long, Zach Galifianakis, Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta, and Rooney Mara. The film is based on the novels written by C.D. Payne.
Cera plays Nick Twisp who falls for a girl who he believes is out of his league. He creates an alter ego who is the opposite of himself. The film is funny, romantic, dramatic, and adventurous.
The film's scheduled screening is for Sunday, November 8th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available to purchase. The film won't be in theaters until January 2010.
The Adrenaline Film Project will have screenings on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The project, which has become tradition, involves 12 groups of filmmakers. Everything from creating the script, filming, and editing must happen within the 72 hours allocated. The short films will be screened and then judged. Awards for audience, mentor, and jury will be given out after the screening is done. Tickets for these screenings are only available at the door.
The Virginia Film Festival also received some excellent news on November 4th. The Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced that it was awarding the Virginia Film Festival $25,000 for 2010. The grants are awarded every year to various film festivals to be used towards their programs. The main idea is to get the public involved in these festivals, and to make them as easily accessible as possible. Of course, support from the public is always welcome.
