So it’s a Friday and it‘s hot as hell out there! I feel it’s my duty to find ways to cool you down and get you drunk at the same time using wine. I know this time of the year scream Sangrias to me, so let me give you a few of my favorite recipes from different regions that will cool you down and are very simple.
In Chile on hot days, the locals like to stop by their local bars or restaurants and order this great drink called the Terremoto, which means “Earthquake.

Now a good friend introduced me to this great concoction one hot afternoon of sampling wines when we got to a Ruby Port from Portugal. He said “do you have lemonade”? Little did I know that this was the start of a fun and long, drinking day. In Portugal, it is very common to mix Ruby Port with lemonade or other fruit mixes to enjoy after dinner or on a warm day.

So I can’t write this article without including a traditional Spanish recipe for Sangria that just love to make. You can try mine or make your own variation, you really can’t go wrong. It’s just a bunch of fruits and red wine mixed together. The longer you let sit the better it gets.

Ingredients
1. 1 Bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja, Zinfandel, Shiraz)
2. 1 Lemon cut into wedges
3. 1 Orange cut into wedges
4. 1 Lime cut into wedges
5. 2 Tbsp sugar
6. Splash of orange juice or lemonade
7. 2 Shots of gin or triple sec (optional)
8. 1 Cup of raspberries or strawberries (may use thawed or frozen)
9. 1 Small can of diced pineapples (with juice)
10. 4 Cups ginger ale
11. 1 cup of Champagne or sparkling wine.
Directions
Pour wine into a large pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon, orange and lime into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and pineapple then add sugar, orange juice and gin. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale, champagne, berries and ice just before serving. If you'd like to serve right away, use chilled red wine and serve over lots of ice. However, remember that the best Sangrias are chilled around 24 hours in the frig. - allowing the flavors to really marinate into each other.
