Matt Kenseth, driver of the number 17 Dewalt Ford, joined Auto Club Speedway President Gillian Zucker at the Paul A. Biane Library in Rancho Cucamonga Wednesday. The visit was part of Kenseth’s visit to ACS ahead of the October race and included opportunities to speak with Kenseth and a Hard Card event for fans.
The pair was joined at the library by students from Grapeland Elementary. Zucker read Where the Wild Things Are to students while Kenseth helped with page turning duties. Once the book was finished, Kenseth talked about the importance of reading in his own life and presented autographed “READ” posters to classes.
The library appearance was part of the Speedway’s Reading to Race program, which encourages reading among elementary school students in local schools. Auto Club Speedway also donated more than 600 books to the library. It also helped to promote an ACS Kids Club Event for the Pepsi 500 in October where Ryan Newman is scheduled to read before the race.
Reading to Race was launched in December 2008. Nearly 6,000 students from local Southern California school districts have participated in the program. Students who successfully completed reading requirements set by the student’s teachers were rewarded with an opportunity to attend Auto Club Speedway events. Information on the ACS Kids Club is available at the Speedway’s website.
