According to numerous reports, Robby Gordon Motorsports confirmed has tapped Doug Richert, to be the crew chief for the number 7 Cup car for the rest of the 2009 season.

"I am really looking forward to this opportunity. Even though I have helped Robby and the No. 7 team as a spotter, I haven't been associated directly with a team since last May,'' said Richert. He went on to say that he hopes to "…directly improve the team's performance."

Richert is a California native with more 25 years of top-tier NASCAR experience and numerous win with notables such as Dale Earnhardt and Ron Hornaday. Most recently, Richert has covered the Camping World Truck Series with the SPEED team, and served as crew chief for both the number 83 driven by Brian Vickers and the 16 of Greg Biffle. Richert is replacing Kirk Almquist, who will leave the team at the end of the 2009 season.

The goal is to keep the RGM car in the top 35 in owner points heading into the 2010 season. In commenting on the move, Robby Gordon, the owner and driver of the number 7, noted: "[W]e are happy to have Doug come on board as crew chief this weekend. He will fill this role for the final five races, and we will see where it goes from there.''
