Two years ago, director Larry Chales and chameleon Sacha Baron Cohen took America by storm with Borat, leading to lawsuits and laughs in almost equal measure. Charles and Cohen have reunited to bring another of the actor’s famous characters to the big screen, Bruno, the extremely flamboyant Austrian fashionista. Confronting homophobes, models, southerners and anyone else he meets, Cohen’s creation is sure to leave an impression. Can Cohen and Charles strike gold twice? Can they keep from being sued longer than 24 hours? Only time will tell.

One of Hollywood’s finest action directors takes on the story of John Dillinger in the latest film by Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral). Johnny Depp is the notorious criminal, who runs out around Depression era America, robbing banks, meeting dames and trying to escape Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale). Mann’s a master of shooting the shootout and the material seems right up his alley.

Kathryn Bigelow’s war film finally hits theaters in Seattle, after winning an array of awards on the way, including SIFF’s Golden Space Needle Award just weeks ago. The picture is set amongst a group of soldiers in Iraq, particularly an elite Army bomb squad. Staff Sergeant William James (Jeremy Renner) is the adrenaline rushed lead, having defused hundreds of the devices in years past. Bigelow’s picture has been touted as a top notch thriller, tense and hard to shake. However, some have derided the movie for its lack of a political stance.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
The Harry Potter series has been an enjoyable, enchanting fantasy romp since Alfonso Cuaron gave the franchise a good kick with Prisoner of Azkaban. The sixth film looks to continue the trend, with director David Yates returning for a second go-around. Fans of the book know Half Blood Prince is full of major plot developments for Potter and friends, as the darkness of Voldemort seeps into every element of their lives. Expect danger, action, romance and death.

Judd Apatow has lent his name to a seemingly endless supply of recent comedies. Yet, in truth he has only been fully behind two to date, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up. Apatow adds a third as July comes a to a close with Funny People, starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann. The latter two are Apatow veterans, Sandler though is a new face for the filmmaker, financially one of the most successful funny-men of all time. The trailer features solid laughs, if perhaps too many plot points, and hints at a slightly more syrupy tale.
