According to boxofficemojo.com, the Michael Jackson concert-film This Is It was the king of the weekend’s cinemas with a $21.3 million gross. Since its Wednesday release, the film has earned $32.5 million domestically. While this was well below some expectations, it is not far behind 2008’s Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour’s five-day haul of $37.3 million.

Continuing its success was Paranormal Activity, which no doubt received a slight boost from the Halloween weekend. Dropping from the top spot to second, the movie made $16.5 million this weekend and has brought in $84.8 million over six weeks. Moving up one slot from last weekend was the thriller Law Abiding Citizen ($7.3 million this weekend, $51.4 million overall). With no major comedy competition, Couples Retreat held strong in fourth ($6.1 million this weekend, $86.7 million overall).

At fifth was Saw VI. The one-time unbeatable horror series has struggled this year, likely to make less than half of any previous installment. Despite a weekend known for audiences gorging on the scares, Saw VI made only $5.6 milllion ($22.8 million overall).

Sixth place belonged to Where the Wild Things Are ($5.1 million this weekend, $61.8 million overall). In seventh was The Stepfather ($3.4 million this weekend, $24.7 million overall). Astro Boy failed to bring in families in eighth ($3 million this weekend, $10.9 million overall). Expanding slightly in ninth was Amelia ($3 million this weekend, $8.3 million overall). Rounding out the top ten was Cirque du Freak: The Vampire Assistant ($2.8 million this weekend, $10.5 million overall).

Other notable box-office news came with the new Jared Hess picture Gentlemen Broncos. Despite being from the creative team of Napoleon Dynamite, Broncos made a dismal $10,000 on two screens.
