Can't make it to Greece this year? Love authentic Greek music and food? Then head down to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church for their 49th Annual Greek Festival.
Live music and dancing with the aroma of grilled lamb, spanakopita,Greek wine and a wonderful Platka (market place with jewelry, pastries, books and more). The food alone is something not to be missed. There is a wide variety of authentic Greek fare to surely make you want to get up and say "ooopah!"
Grab a glass of Kleoni red wine (like a Merlot, but a bit drier) and a plate of Spanakopita (paper thin phyllo dough with spinach filling), Manestra (Greek orzo pasta cooked in a light tomato chicken broth sauce) and slow roasted lamb with lemon , garlic and oregeno....Sit back and take in the music, dancing and great atmosphere. Not much of a lamb fan -- gyros galore - Moussaka (baked eggplant layers filled with ground beef topped with a bechamel sauce) - Loukaniko a tasty treat of sauteed kielbasa seasoned with garlic, oregano and finished with lemon juice. Like chicken livers? George the Saint (truly a saint in my family's book) makes fantastic chicken livers -- for you liver fans. Any of these dishes paired with the Greek red wine is a winner. There's a nice white - Retsina (not a fan of very strong flavors? -- this wine's not for you) and Ouzo for you fans of licorice.
Enjoy and Kalí óreksi! ( Bon appetite)
