Football has finally arrived and our Washington Redskins are suiting up for the season. Which means it’s time to get all sorts of delish munchies and beverages ready for the games!

How much beer can one drink before they float away? How much can one stuff their face with chips and salsa? Instead of the typical football watching fare – lets spice things up and surprise your guests with a slightly more elegant football watching food and drink.

Antipasto bread is a quick to prepare and tasty football friendly dish that will have all your Skin fans asking for a time-out and wanting more. A mess of meats and cheeses and roasted red peppers for your guests to tackle.

Antipasto Bread

Ingredients:

2 cans crescent rolls (Pillsbury – not the jumbo ones)
¼ lb each:
Salami
Pepperoni
Baked ham (sliced thin)
Provolone cheese
Swiss cheese
Mozzarella cheese
3 eggs
1 large jar of roasted red peppers
Poppy seeds

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13x9 inch pan with garlic flavored oil (if you don’t have garlic olive oil on hand – slice clove of garlic and place in olive oil for 20 minutes and "voila" garlic olive oil.

Open one crescent roll and lay flat on the bottom of the pan. Layer salami, ham, pepperoni with swiss, provolone, mozzarella and parmesan alternating. Drain the roasted red peppers and place on top. Beat two eggs with a little milk and salt and pepper. Pour over everything. Lay t he other crescent roll flat on top. Brush with one egg white and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake 50 minutes – then cool for 10 minutes.

Now, what would an Italian dish such as this taste even better with? Wine! But, this is football…beer beer beer beer. Ok, beer might taste nice with this dish – but let’s stay on track here. Spier Chardonnay from Stellenbosch, South Africa is a touchdown winner for sure. The creaminess of the wine and the cheeses in the dish are supurb together and bring all kinds of flavors out. Citrus fruits on the nose while white pepper lingers on the finish. Crisp and oh so refreshing.

A perfect wine to enjoy while eating a meaty, cheesy Italian dish while watching the Washington Redskins soar to victory! Hail to the Redskins!

Disclaimer: This also tastes good while watching the team of your choice (if it's not the ‘skins) – unless your team happens to be the Cowboys!
