Jazz in the garden is held at the National Gallery of Art - Sculpture Garden - which offers live music along with great ambiance. A perfect place to have a picnic and pop open that bottle to help "wine" down on a Friday night.
There is a pavilion that sells Sangria by the glass or pitcher as well as wine. You may prefer to bring your own wine -- if thats the case make sure it is not just out in the open. In other words don't strut in carrying a bottle of wine. Keep it in the cooler until you are ready to indulge.
The easiest quick food item to pick up after work is hummus and pita..... and a good wine to enjoy with them is a nice crisp white wine or rose -- or if you are a red wine fan -- a nice light bodied red wine will do -- slightly chilled will make it crisper and more refreshing.
If hummus and pita bore you -- add some fresh veggies to make things more colorful.
White wines to quench your thirst:
Sauvignon Blancs are nice and crisp - and pair well with hummus -- sauvignon blancs can have hints of lemon which is a nice match to hummus. Earth Wise Chardonnay runs about $8 and is very creamy/smooth and has that crisp refreshing finish just fit for a night spent relaxing in the garden.
Rose's are not given the respect they ought to have. Not that icky "white zinfandel" -- ROSE from the south of France or Italy. Roses are the perfect summer wine -- crisp and refreshing to the max. Clos du Bois makes a rose which is 70% merlot and 30% syrah -- is a bit darker with a nice spice finish. Domaine Houchart - Cotes de Provence Rose 2008 $11 - crisp and smooth.
So, kick off your heels, put on your flip flops, text your friends, grab some vino and head to the Sculpture Garden for a jazzy Friday night.
