Meadow, a Black Angus calf, is living a better life now due to her new prosthetic legs, designed by the veterinarians and students at Colorado State University. Rancher, Nancy Dickenson and her stepdaughter, Martha found the calf in dire need of medical attention on a neighbor's property. The 11-month old calf had lost her back hooves and half of her ears to severe frostbite.
Meadow's owners were contacted and Dickenson bought her and convinced veterinarians to do the rare procedure. Meadow is believed to be the first bovine calf fitted with double prosthetics, Colorado State veterinarian, Dr. Robert Callan said.
These days, Meadow is running around and making friends with goats in a nearby pen.
