The Las Vegas 51s, Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, held on to their lead and defeated the Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, 9-8 on Monday night.
Las Vegas lit up the scoreboard early and turned on the defensive pressure later in the game. 51s catcher J.P. Arencibia went 1-for-5 with a two-run long bomb in the sixth. First-baseman Brian Dopirak went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, while shortstop Angel Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. The Las Vegas bullpen was able to hold on to the lead with starting left-handed pitcher Fabio Castro getting his seventh win by going five and one-third innings with two earned runs off of seven hits, and righty Jeremy Accardo earned save number twelve.
Fresno made a late-game surge with a five run seventh inning but it was not enough to take the lead. Grizzlies first-baseman Jesus Guzman went 1-for-4 with a two-run shot in the seventh, and designated hitter Joe Borchard went 2-for-5 with a solo shot in the seventh as well. Third-baseman Jake Wald went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, while catcher Buster Posey went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Starting right-handed pitcher Steve Palazzolo went only two innings with two earned runs off of four hits, and righty Joe Martinez earned his second loss with the Grizzlies.
