The Las Vegas 51’s go 2-and-2 in their most recent four-game stretch against the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A team for the Oakland A’s. The 51’s, Triple-A team for the Toronto Blue Jays, could not stand up to a three-run sixth inning and drop their record to 34-and-45 putting them fourteen and a half games behind the reigning champion River Cats.
The River Cats had all kind of hitting power for Tuesday’s game with eleven hits in the game. Sacramento outfielder Chris Denorfia went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. First-baseman Tommy Everidge went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk and second-baseman Eric Patterson gained his 33rd RBI of the season in the win. Winning pitcher Chad Reineke went a dominant seven innings with four strikeouts and no earned runs off of four hits, plus righty Jeff Gray got his tenth save of the season.
Meanwhile, our Las Vegas 51’s struggled under the pitching power of the River Cats with only ten hits in the loss. 51’s second-baseman Joe Inglett went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run, while the only two RBIs came from catcher J. P. Arencibia who went 1-for-4 and first-baseman Randy Ruiz, who was the designated hitter, added to his league-leading total of 67 RBIs. Fielding and pitching were a problem for Las Vegas with two errors in the game and starting left-handed pitcher David Purcey gaining his second loss of the season while going five and two-third innings with two earned runs off of eight hits, four walks, and four strikeouts.
The Las Vegas 51’s next opponent will be northern rival Reno Aces for their first appearance ever at Cashman Field for a three-game series starting Wednesday night. Las Vegas lefty Davis Romero will be starting on Wednesday night. This is the continuation of the Silver State Diamond Challenge, where the winner takes away the coveted “Silver Plate Trophy”. Reno leads the 16-game series 2-to-1 after a three-game series in Reno. Remember that there will be fireworks after both games Thursday and Friday night, plus Thursday is dollar beer night at Cashman Field. So make sure you head out to support your Las Vegas 51’s against Reno, responsibly enjoy a dollar beer or two, and have fun watching the fireworks.
