My wife and I recently had the good fortune to spend a relaxing evening at the Brasstown Valley Resort in the north Georgia mountains. We are eagerly anticipating a return trip in the fall, when we can spend more time enjoying the multitude of amenities and activities available to guests.
Brasstown Valley Resort is situated on 503 beautiful acres bordering the Chattahoochee National Forest in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The property is home to approximately one hundred species of birds including bald eagles and peregrine falcons, and red fox, bear, dear and other animals roam the woodlands surrounding the resort. Of course, the cool freshwater streams and lakes abound with trout and other types of fish.
On site amenities include a game room, a health club and fitness center (including massages by appointment), four lighted tennis courts, a full service "Equani Spa" and a combination outdoor and heated indoor swimming pool. The Stables are the origination point for horseback trail rides, pony rides and hayrides, and an 18-hole championship golf course, complete with a driving range, putting green and pro shop, is available for year-round enjoyment. Over nine miles of hiking trails provide exercise and bird-watching experiences, and trout fishermen will enjoy a morning or afternoon at Brasstown Creek.
The check-in staff is courteous, helpful and friendly, and the resort is exceptionally clean and well maintained. The lodge interior, with panoramic views of the mountains and the golf course, surrounds a 72 foot stone fireplace .The grounds are immaculate, and my wife and I found a late afternoon stroll around the facility particularly refreshing and pleasing. Our room was large enough for a king size bed and a spacious sitting area, and a wooded area outside our window afforded welcome privacy for our balcony. All guest rooms were renovated in the spring of 2003.

The buffet breakfast is a bargain at $12.00 per person. Cooked to order Belgian waffles and omelets are available in addition to a wide selection of other items. Evening dining is the specialty of The Dining Room; for a more casual setting Brassies Sports Bar and the Fireside Lounge provide excellent locations for a meal or drinks.
Shopping and additional restaurants are plentiful in the nearby mountain towns of Hiawassee and Young Harris. Lake Chatuge provides opportunities for boating, fishing and other outdoor activities.
The resort is less than a two hour drive from Atlanta by way of I-575 and the Georgia Mountain Parkway.
