I would be remiss if I did a Summer essentials list and failed to mention the merits of the beloved, khaki.  A true fashion staple that has stood the test of time, the khaki scores.  Whether dressed up, or dressed down, this universal pant is a force to be reckoned with.  The khaki runs a close second to my self-proclaimed appointee for the 'summer essential versatility award,' the light-weight linen blazer.

The khaki possess a restrained cool that allows it to effortlessly cruise from the boardroom to the crowded streets of Georgetown.  The khaki is limited only by the imagination of the style purveyors who don them.

Here are a few suggestions on where to cop them, and how to 'rock' them...

HOW TO WEAR 'EM...

  • 1. Go for a slim cut for a more modern edge, that is unless your like my man Jay-Z, and your 'knots' are just too big.
  • 2. Have your local tailor allow for a full break that works with loafers or a more chunky oxford.  Tip: Hem them sans a break for a cleaner look (Rumor has it that Mermaids think a little ankle is sexy!).
  • 3. Please... under no circumstances should your khakis have pleats.  If so, you may as well be wearing the black bar on your face that says, 'fashion don't!'

Michael's Pick:  The Gap original khaki serves up a look that is a hybrid of modern and classic.  By the way... it doesn't hurt  that it's on recession proof! $24.99 - $34.99 Sale!
