Betsy Franco’s newest release is not to be missed. ‘Metamorphosis: Junior Year’ shows us that some themes are timeless. Ovid lives up to the strength of his name. He records the current dramas of modern day high school in his notebook, in a way hoping to relate and even alleviate the pain of his own home life. Franco’s work as a teen cultural anthropologist comes through in her depiction of Ovid and his own coping mechanisms with life and fate.
Still not convinced? Come down to Kepler’s Bookstore in Menlo Park, and you can see for yourself. Betsy and her son, Tom, are the guests of honor at tonight’s youth event, a poetry slam and reading. There is still time to participate. Teens can send original poems to Vivian@keplers.com. Betsy and Tom will be picking several and having the poets read them at the event. Those chosen will also receive a gift card from Kepler’s as well.
Betsy has collected original and uncensored poems from teenagers across the country. Interested in what teenagers have to say? I mean, really say? Here’s your chance:
You Hear Me? Poems and Writing by Teenage Boys
Things I Have to Tell You, Poems and Writing by Teenage Girls
Falling Hard 100 Love Poems By Teenagers
Her sidekick for tonight and this latest book (her debut YA novel, no less) is none other than her son Tom, a sculptor, who has done the illustrations for ‘Metamorphosis: Junior Year.’ Want to know another factoid? Betsy has two other sons who are actors, and they read the audio version of this new release. How cool is that?
Really, you don’t want to miss tonight’s event.
