There's an old wives' tale that oysters are safe to eat in any month that contains an "R". Recent notice that the Bluewater Grill in Redondo Beach (www.bluewatergrill.com) is hosting an "East Coast vs. West Coast Oyster Showdown " on Tuesday, November 10th, reminded us that autumn is the perfect time to include oysters in your everyday menus or to showcase them in your holiday party fare.
If you enjoy them raw on the halfshell, Graffigna Centenario Pinot Grigio 2008 (www.graffignawines.com) provides a lovely taste counterpoint. Or try them in such classic appetizers as Oysters Rockefeller (which first premiered in New Orleans in 1899) or Angels on Horseback, oysters wrapped in bacon and broiled.
Always be sure to get your fresh oysters from a reliable seafood source since this is one seafood that's easily contaminated and must be fresh and live prior to using in your favorite recipe.
Until our next food find...may all your food finds be fabulous!
