Michael Jackson's parents said on Monday that they believed their son died without a valid will. However, The Wall Street Journal has reported that a 2002 draft of Michael Jackson's will does exist.
He has left all his assets to the Michael Jackson Family Trust. The 2002 will does not list any charities as beneficiaries, nor does it specifically exclude Joe Jackson, Michael's dad, as had been rumored. "There are no numbers in the will," says a source familiar with the document. "The assets are going into the family trust.”
The will named his mother Katherine, 79, as guardian of his children. Michael's mother Katherine Jackson has recently been granted temporary custody of the three children, "Prince" Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.
Michael's attorney John Branca has the will and plans to file it with the court within 30 days of the singer's death. If this will is accepted as Michael Jackson's valid final will and testament, John Branca and John McClain (Michael's music executive) will act as the executors. John Branca has served as Michael Jackson's attorney from 1980-2006 and had just recently been rehired by Jackson before his death.
