The Rainmaker a romantic comedy written by N. Richard Nash, directed by Debra Brooks

This story is about a city in a drought and a girl who can’t seem to find love. Through the desperate actions of a father, rain and love finally arrive. This is a heartwarming play that will keep you in stitches as it unravels results that don’t seem possible. It is a romantic comedy. Rated PG

Director, Debra Brooks has done an outstanding job in capturing the many dimensions of relationships and how each affects the other.

This is by far the best performance by the Popcorn Players I have seen, which is quite a feat since they do some pretty impressive work. This is a group that is passionate about what they do and have an equally strong fan base.  Everything from the scenery to the casting fit perfectly. The lighting was carefully planned and well executed. Adequate lighting has been a challenge in this theater, but this performance showed that it can be done.

Gwen Gibbons (Lizzie) leads the stellar cast with her outstanding performance. She will win your heart and have you cheering her on as she faces the many challenges of a single woman in a small town. Lizzie is a woman of marrying age who is smart, shy and lonely. Her father wants desperately to find her a man. Calvin Eastwood who plays her father is a great fit as a widower rancher and loving father. At times he speaks louder with his gestures that with words.  This takes full commitment to the role being played. Calvin executes this role to its full potential. He has allowed his eldest son to manage their farm, but doesn’t miss an opportunity to make his feelings known.

Newcomer to the Popcorn Players is Josh Miller. He plays the youngest son, Jim Curry, a “Wally Cleaver” with a spitfire attitude. He knows his role in the family but his raging hormones and adventurous spirit can no longer be contained. He refuses to allow people around him dictate his future and wants the same for his sister. Josh did an outstanding job in portraying the passion of this young man.
