You don't have to be quasi-psychic to know that Emmy nominee Simon Baker is one of the sexiest leading men on television thanks to the CBS hit The Mentalist, currently in its second season now airing on Thursday nights at 10pm. But back in 2001, this Australian heartthrob was already on the rise with his previous show The Guardian, released over a week ago on DVD with all 22 season one episodes featuring only CBS promos.
Baker played Nick Fallin, a handsome young attorney working at his father Burton's prestigious law firm. But he found himself on the wrong side of his profession thanks to a drug posession charge, and the court sentenced him to 1,500 hours of community service at the Legal Systems of Philadelphia. Led by Alvin Masterson (Alan Rosenberg), Nick Fallin, the corporate lawyer, must now become Nick Fallin, The Guardian: advocate for children that have been abused, neglected, and abandoned; troubled youths that have no one on their side, and others that can't fight for themselves.
Both Guardian and Mentalist aired following NCIS on Tuesday nights, and while the predecessor didn't have the enormous ratings its successor continues to have, Guardian enjoyed modest success during its three-year run on CBS from 2001-04, and earned Baker a Golden Globe nomination in 2002 for Best Actor in a Television Drama.
Now, The Guardian can be seen today thanks to reruns on the cable network Sleuth, as you can get twice the Simon Baker with its first season as well as the freshman season of his current series, The Mentalist, which won the 2009 People's Choice Award for "Best New Series". In tonight's new episode, Patrick Jane goes to jail for bugging Agent Bosco (Terry Kinney)'s office for information on the Red John case, but this Sherlock Holmes continues to fight crime from the inside as he helps the team investigate.
The Mentalist airs tonight at 10pm on CBS.
