Cooking Mama draws the ire of PETA
In their second grievance with video games in two weeks, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has condemned Majesco's Cooking Mama series for not being vegan enough. I am so serious about that.
This complaint comes not too long after PETA convinced Sega
to pull their Samba De Amigo commercials. The animal rights activist group blasted Majesco for focusing on dishes that focus on the killing of animals and not having enough vegetarian-friendly recipes. A press release quickly disproved this, explaining "World Kitchen includes more than 25 vegetarian-friendly recipes including delicious breakfast, dinner, dessert, and snack options."
PETA also parodied the game on their website with a Flash game titled “Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals” In this rather bloody knock-off, (which plays just like a Cooking Mama game) you do everything from plucking a dead turkey to pulling out its entrails. For your efforts, you are rewarded with videos that show the horrors of turkey farms and the option the urge Majesco to create a vegetarian alternative of Cooking Mama. You can check it all out
here but be warned; the game is pretty bloody and the video is a little graphic.
