MTV premiered Season 22 of the Real World in Cancun not even over a week ago but the buzz is not there, it is in the Nation’s Capital. For many years, DC was rumored to be the next place to house MTV’s new 8 strangers. And there were always the typical questions to follow, how are they going to do it? Where are they going to live?
Within the first few months of 2009, it was already rumored that MTV was poking there head around the DC area looking for staff on an upcoming season. When that information surfaced, people immediately thought Real World: DC, just as many other networks have decided to break ground in Washington, DC with their reality shows. Well into June of 2009, MTV has broken ground close to the Dupont section of the city on 2000 S Street in an old brick mansion, currently being renovated. No word on where the 8 strangers will work but they are definitely in one of the now most popular cities of opportunity.
Is the Nation’s Capital the best place for Reality TV? Real World: Cancun has already debuted with tons of drinking and scandalous hook ups. Although, this is not too different from other MTV seasons of the Real World, is DC really an appropriate setting for this type of activity? Yes, this type of activity probably does happen already, but when things are documented on reality shows it is always magnified. Hopefully MTV will portray DC tastefully, just as it should be because it is the home to the President of the United States among many other chief figures to this country.
