In ‘The City’ Joe and Erin from Elle had lunch and discuss their upcoming projects. Erin expresses that she is still worried about working with Olivia because she has not proved herself to Erin, yet. She is particularly worried about the project they have coming up, Elle’s Fall A to Z. Despite what Erin thought, Joe said he still thought Olivia had what Elle needs, but if she does not do well with this task, then her future may be elsewhere and not at Elle.
Erin and Olivia then meet up for the first steps of the new Fall A to Z project. They head over to Badgley-Mishka showroom. Erin explains to Olivia how the project is going to work, and that this will be the only visit she will be making with Olivia. Each letter of the alphabet will correspond with a Fall piece of clothing, accessory or trend. It will be Olivia’s job to find all 26 pieces to match up with each letter. She was responsible for doing this on her own without the help of Erin. Erin also said that she hoped that Olivia was taking notes, after the designers showed them a few pieces. She was going to have to report back to Joe on what they found. With a slight smile, Olivia said she was taking mental notes. This appeared to be not too pleasing to Erin.
Meanwhile Whitney and Roxy are working at People’s Revolution. While at work Whitney decided to share with Roxy that she has a few sketches together for her future line that she is designing. She was planning to share them with Kelly but told Roxy that she was a little nervous. Whitney was very hesitant when Roxy asked if she could see them. Whitney gave in and specifically asked Roxy to only give her ‘constructive criticism.’ Roxy appeared to be surprisingly pleased on what Whitney had done so far and really pushes her to show Kelly.
When Kelly arrived, Whitney saw her opportunity to show Kelly her designs. Kelly told Whitney they were very good for her first collection and was very impressed with the quality of designs. She would really need to work on developing some more looks to have a complete line. Kelly had told Whitney from the very beginning that she will help her, but stresses to Whitney that it is very important that she does not share her sketches with anyone else, yet.
Later on that day, Roxy and Whitney head out to meet Samantha for lunch. When the girls sat down, Whitney told Samantha how she showed Kelly her first sketches of her line. She felt good about it because Kelly had told Whitney there was definite potential in her line. Roxy then pushed that Whitney should really show Samantha’s boss her sketches. Whitney was very wary about the idea, but Roxy explains that it can only help her. Samantha agreed but said she would have to speak with her boss first.
In the meantime, Olivia continued to work on the Fall A to Z project. She visited the Roberta Freyman store where she spoke with Roberta about what Elle was doing. Roberta showed Olivia a few pieces and Olivia was very impressed on what Roberta had said about the prices and also the turnaround time on each item. Olivia then headed to the Rachel Roy showroom and again Olivia explains what they were doing at Elle for this project. After talking about the project and what Rachel could add, she asked Olivia how everything was going at Elle. Olivia responds that although she loves Joe Zee it has had its ups and downs. She was surprised to see how much help she was not getting as a new person. Rachel persisted Olivia to keep at it and it’s impossible to make everyone happy.
After work, Roxy and Whitney head to a fabric store. Roxy continued to talk about Whitney’s new line and how meeting Samantha’s boss could really help. Whitney explained that she was very scared of rejection. After Roxy explained that this could really help because Samantha’s boss is in fashion, Kelly only promotes it. Whitney finally was pushed enough by Roxy and agreed that it was a good idea to go see Samantha’s boss.
The next day Whitney headed to Bergdorf Goodman with her sketches to meet Samantha’s boss, Sunni – a buyer for the store. When Sunni arrived she made it clear that she was in a hurry but would quickly look at the designs. After looking through them, she felt that she did see a designer in Whitney, but she had a lot more work to do. More importantly she tells Whitney that photos are very helpful and she had a long way to go. She sees a lot of designers but she did see potential in Whitney. Sunni then quickly apologized and said she would have to leave; she had another meeting, but did wish Whitney luck in the future.
When Whitney went back to work at People’s Revolution, Kelly immediately called her to her office. Kelly wanted to know why Whitney went behind her back because she had received a call from Bergdorf Goodman. She had told Whitney not to show anyone else the designs. Whitney explained that it had been Roxy’s great idea to show Samantha’s boss. Kelly told Whitney that she only is making herself look bad, and that no one would ever go to Bergdorf Goodman with just a bunch of drawings. After that, Kelly broke down and asked how the meeting went and Whitney told her that she felt it went well and Sunni thought and told her the same things that Kelly told her about the line. Kelly told Whitney that she believed in her and should not always take Roxy’s advice. She felt that Roxy does not always have Whitney’s best interests in mind.
Back at Elle, Olivia seemed to really surprise Joe with the pieces she found for the Fall A to Z project. Erin was really surprised because she just finished telling how Olivia was not even taking notes when they were looking at accessories. Olivia talked about the tribal trend she was seeing and Joe loved it. Erin was quick to judge on one piece, the belt she brought in was out of their price range. However Joe said it was alright, he was very impressed with the pieces Olivia found and best of all they look as if they are all going to photograph well.
