Weiner: Bloomberg may just not get it
Earlier today I reported on that in a last ditch effort to stop the mayor from signing controversial term limits legislation, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D – Brooklyn/Queens), a 2009 mayoral candidate is urging members of the public to come out to City Hall tomorrow to ask New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I) to veto his own legislation.
Asked what he hoped to accomplish by getting people out and whether he thought it would actually change Bloomberg’s mind, Weiner tonight said that the mayor may not get just how important having a voice in the term limits debate is to the citizens of New York City.
"We legitimately believe that the Mayor may not understand just how seriously New Yorkers take this,” Weiner told the Examiner. “We sincerely hope that when he hears regular New Yorkers speak out tomorrow about this process, he will be moved to say there is a right way and a wrong way to change term limits, and the way they are going about it is simply the wrong way."
Stu Loeser, the Mayor's press secretary declined to comment.
A bill signing is scheduled for 9:30 tomorrow morning in the Blue Room at City Hall.
