New Facebook group aimed at defeating those who supported term limits legislation

Brooklyn resident Andre Calvert yesterday afternoon created a new Facebook group dedicated to defeating New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and the 29 City Council members who last week approved legislation to  extend term limits for the city's elected officials.

Hundreds of people from across the city, including this writer received invites to join the group from "King Bloomberg III," which states its purpose as "a tool to identify and campaign for primary opponents of all 29 City Council members who voted YES to the Mayor's undemocratic term limits proposal. There will be a heavy focus on unseating City Council Speaker Christine Quinn."

The group's Facebook page contains the names of 26 of the 29 Council members who voted for the legislation, as well as names and websites of their primary opponents, where available.  The group's 18 members include John X. Choe, chief of staff to City Council Member John C. Liu (D - Queens) and City Council candidate David Kerpen (D - Queens).

Spokespersons for Bloomberg and Quinn could not immediately be reached for comment.
