Democratic City Council Candidate Eric N. Gioia today received the endorsement of former Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman ever to run for Vice President on a major party line.
Here is her endorsement statement:
In this economy, our next Public Advocate will have the responsibility to make sure working New Yorkers have a voice in City Hall and Eric Gioia is uniquely qualified to be that voice. I've known his family for a long time. Eric brings to every job he undertakes the values he learned from them. They are a very hard working family. Eric attended NYC public schools but in order to pay his way through NYU he worked nights as a janitor, doorman and elevator operator, and while attending law school at Georgetown, he worked in the White House deputy counsel’s office.
There is no doubt that Eric understands what it means to struggle in order to make ends meet. And he has taken that experience to the City Council where he has worked to cut government waste, inefficiency and mismanagement and has focused on cutting bureaucratic red tape so that working parents can get food stamps for their families. He has a long list of accomplishments in the City Council which I applaud. I'm sure Eric's family is proud of him and his accomplishments. I am too and I am pleased to endorse him for Public Advocate. I know his election will make every New Yorker proud.
