A non-scientific poll conducted by the New York State Young Democrats shows that Young Democrats appear to want New York Governor David Paterson to appoint State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to fill the United States Senate Seat being vacated by Secretary of State-designate Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In an E-mail sent this afternoon, New York State Young Democrats President Matthew Silverstein wrote of the poll, which opened on December 23, "We will release the results in the next few days."
A Democratic political consultant told The Examiner that he was surprised by the Young Democrats apparent preference. "Young people tend to be more impressed with celebrity and that would tend to give Caroline Kennedy a leg up," said the consultant, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "This could be a sign of a more sophisticated generation of young people or at least young Democrats."
