Any time there's a major political appointment to be made, we hear about "the short list" of candidates.  That list generally gets shorter and shorter until a candidate is chosen and at some point is usually leaked to the media and the case is no different with Governor David A. Paterson's appointment of a replacement for New York's junior Senator, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The list (in no particular order), as we currently have it, has been narrowed down to the following11 people, all Democrats:

  • Caroline Kennedy
  • State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo
  • Nassau County District Executive Tom Suozzi
  • Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown
  • Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr.
  • Rep. Nydia Velazquez
  • Rep. Carolyn Maloney
  • Rep. Steve Israel
  • Rep. Jerrold Nadler
  • Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand
  • Rep. Brian Higgins.

I encourage you to use the comments tool below or to E-mail me at comments@government.examinerny.com with your thoughts on this list.
