Just hours after Governor David A. Paterson (D - NY) admitted  that he had had a "private conversation" with Caroline Kennedy regarding replacing Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D - NY) after the junior Senator from New York resigns to become Secretary of State, informed sources tell The Examiner that the only living daughter of former Democratic President John F. Kennedy is "high on the short list" to replace Clinton.

Kennedy will meet with Paterson to discuss the prospect of joining her uncle, Edward M. Kennedy in the United States Senate for the second time today, the Associated Press reports.  Today's meeting will take place in D.C.

If appointed. she would hold the very same seat held by her uncle, former Senator Robert F. Kennedy, who served as a Senator from New York until his assassination in 1968.

Robert Kennedy, Jr. said that his cousin "was very interested in the position."

"If New York Governor David Paterson pops the question, the answer would be yes," he added.

Prior to last night I had seen Robert Kennedy, Jr.'s name on several lists, he has said that he wouldn't be interested, but the name of his cousin Caroline, who has historically remained politically inactive never came into play until the past 24 hours.

The Examiner will continue to follow this developing story.
