Gioia, Liu reach out to young Democrats

In the invitation for last Friday’s New York State Young Democrats Presidential Holiday Party, Matthew R. Silverstein, the organization's president noted, "I am so pleased that we will be joined by [Young Democrats of America] 2007 J.F.K. Outstanding Young Democrat of the Year Council Member Eric Gioia.[sic}”

Gioa, a Queens City Council Member will face fellow Council Members John C. Liu of Queens and Bill de Blasio of Brooklyn and civil liberties attorney Norman Siegel in the 2009 Democratic Primary for New York City Public Advocate.

Former New York City Public Advocate and Air America Radio President Mark J, Green has also indicated that he may enter the race.

Gioia isn’t the only 2009 New York City Public Advocate candidate reaching out to young Democratic voters.

Next Monday the Queens County Young Democrats will host a “Young Professionals Mixer in Support of Council Member John Liu.” The event is aimed at recognizing Liu’s “support fort for the Young Democrats here in Queens,” according to club President Costa Constantinides.
