Lance Stephenson taking it to the hole.

Lance Stephenson, the high school basketball phenom, has selected the school he will play for, and it’s not the Maryland Terrapins. While the Maryland was one of the schools that Stephenson visited and was considering, he decided to go with the program offered by the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Big East

The choice to attend Cincinnati seemingly came out of nowhere, as Stephenson visited several big schools, including Kansas, St. John’s, and Maryland. However, the Bearcats were not on the list of programs he was associated with, up until this morning. Cincinnati released the following press statement upon Stephenson’s decision.

"We are very excited about Lance's decision to become a Bearcat," head coach Mick Cronin said. "Lance has terrific talent as a basketball player and is also a fierce competitor on the court. His desire to win will help us compete for a Big East Championship.

"As a big guard, Lance brings playmaking ability and versatility to our team, along with his talent for scoring. We look forward to getting Lance here for summer school and building our team for the upcoming season."

At 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, Stephenson is a lean and athletic shooting guard. His high school career at Lincoln was impressive where he was able to score nearly 29 points per game, collect just over 10 rebounds, and dish out almost 4 assists. But he also had a tumultuous time off the court, with a pending sexual assault and possible jail-time.

Don’t look for Maryland to be too disappointed in Stephenson’s decision. They are probably just as happy this saga has come to a conclusion. Sure, Stephenson could have added a lot on the court with his basketball skills, but his off-the-court disruptions might not be worth the headache.
