DC to kick-off Audi Q5 crossover Driving Experience Tour April 3rd (video)
Building on the positive momentum of robust 2009 sales, Audi is pounding the pavement to get more of its products in front of potential buyers. Today, the automaker announced that Washington DC will be the kick-off city for the Audi Experience Driving Tour , an interactive nationwide event positioned to help launch the company’s new luxury crossover, the Q5. The event is scheduled for April 3-5 at Fedex Field in Landover, Maryland and is open to the public via online pre-registration.
DC will join Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York as one of five cities to host the tour, offering an opportunity to be among the first to experience the Q5 first hand. Though not as glamorous as its fellow hosting cities, DC has become at least as high-profile for automakers seeking to influence policymakers on Capitol Hill. As the auto industry struggles and the federal government pumps more taxpayer dollars into ailing companies, it has become critical that PR and marketing efforts include the Nation’s Capital. The Audi Driving Experience Tour follows the growing industry trend of direct-to-consumer experiential marketing, like
Volvo's XC60 tour.
Audi will bring more than thirty Q5’s to DC for the three-day, three-hour program which will offer participants hands-on experience with the vehicle. Each session will begin with an interactive theater demonstration, followed by a “ride and drive” on city roads, then conclude with a driving clinic course led by Audi Driving Experience instructors. The program will also include an extensive tour of the vehicle as well as a safety presentation highlights various features of the Q5.
"Luxury crossover vehicles appeal to a wide audience seeking both practicality and performance," said Johan de Nysschen, president, Audi of America. "But monotony has developed in that segment - sameness we're certain the Audi Q5 now disrupts with its array of distinctive styling cues and forward-thinking features."
The Q5 will include mark several firsts in the luxury crossover segment including three-zone climate control and 40/20/40 reclining rear seats. The Q5 will also feature the third generation of Audi's MMI (Multi-Media Interface) system, which manages entertainment, communications and navigational information. The Q5 will also lead the segment of AWD, gasoline crossover vehicles in fuel economy, with EPA estimated numbers of 18 mpg city, 23 highway and 20 mpg combined.
