The Gosselin children at younger ages

It seems like the not-so-shocking divorce announcement made by Jon and Kate Gosselin on Monday has everyone wondering about eight little people: 8-year-old twins Cara and Mady, and the 5-year-old sextuplets, Aaden, Collin, Joel, Alexis, Hannah, and Leah. How are they coping with the news of their parents' divorce?

People magazine went straight to the experts to find out what is in store for the kids, emotionally-speaking. Dr. Michelle Goland, a relationship expert based out of Hollywood (bet she has plenty of clients there!), had this to say to momlogic.com: "They're coping with a lot of feelings that they don't know how to identify. They act out, they in-fight with other kids. Depending on a child's behavior, they could start to have nightmares, have trouble sleeping or going to sleep. You may start to see kids wet their bed."

Other therapists state that the Gosselins need to keep the lines of communication open and that Jon and Kate need to let their kids express themselves. Naturally it is highly recommended that the Gosselins keep their differences away from the children and do their best not to argue in front of the kids.

The news of their parents' split didn't come as a surprise to at least one Gosselin child. Michelle Tan, a senior writer for People, told The Early Show on CBS that "one of the 8-year-old girl twins actually said the announcement wasn't a surprise to her, and she could have guessed it would happen." Kids aren't dumb: No doubt constant bickering between mom and dad, not to mention Jon's frequent absences combined with magazine tabloid headlines steered her into that line of thinking. For now, Jon and Kate plan to keep the children in the family's home in Reading, PA and will alternate who stays there with them in an effort to not disrupt their lives.

Although the Gosselins said in Monday's special episode announcing their separation that the show would go on, TLC has temporarily halted production of the show to let the family regroup and settle into their new situation. New episodes of 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' won't air until early August.
