In the heart of Dallas in Fair Park, the whirring sounds of carnival rides, and the clanging of bells from flashy games, and the smells of all things fried and horribly delicious are once again booming. The fair, which opened this past weekend, will stay open until October 18th. Admission is $15 dollars for adults and $11 for children over 2 years of age. However, students of Dallas ISD get a free child’s ticket every year. They also get this Friday, October 2nd, off to make sure they get a chance to go to the Fair. This historic fair has hosted Elvis Presley in his day, but today they have other reknown artists on their main stage such as En Vogue and Miranda Lambert.
If you have ever been to the fair what might have made you not want to return would be the unpleasant parking situation. The good news is that this year, for the first time, there is another way to get to the fair safely and avoid the parking issue altogether. If you are lucky enough to find a spot in Fair Park official parking, it will cost you $10, however locals tended to take great advantage of the limits of those lots and charge people $15 and even $20 a car to park in their yards, in alleys, and other places that looked generally very suspicious.
Now the DART system has opened the green line which has a Fair Park stop so that you don’t even have to drive. A day pass costs $2.50 a person, but will save you a lot of time and money. If you don’t live near a DART rail station, just drive to the nearest park and ride and leave your car safely there.
Visitors to Dallas should be able to find their way around the DART system easily or preplan their route at www.dart.org. For more detailed information about the State Fair of Texas, check at www.bigtex.com.
